About John Drozd

A project manager and instructor, David H. Scott, P.Eng, once told me that I would not have five different jobs in my life, but that I would rather have five different careers. My favourite architect and project management instructor, David Tsow, told me that Ryerson is a chicken wing! Well, I don't know about that, but I've been an engineer, an architectural scientist, a project coordinator, a cost estimator, an academic, as an applied mathematician, physicist and computer scientist. Recently, I was a medical imaging researcher and software developer. I pride myself in my math, physics and programming skills. I was using these skills in MRI studies simulating thermal and electromagnetic properties of human implants at Western University's xMR MRI lab in the Physics & Astronomy Department. Electromagnetism is one of the most elegant phenomena in Physics. In the past I was augmenting my skills with learning the physiological effects of Alzheimer's disease on human brains. At Robarts Research Institute I was enjoying developing software to measure volumetric changes in brain ventricles, the hippocampus and total intra-cranial brain volume, and quantifying amyloid plaques in the brain. All of these are early signs of Alzheimer's disease. The goal was to develop software that can accurately measure these physiological changes to be able to detect the very early onset of Alzheimer's disease. This way a person afflicted with this disease can be treated early before experiencing symptoms of memory loss, and have a high quality of life in their golden years of retirement. Memories should be cherished, not forgotten. I have followed my love of teaching as a mathematics tutor at the world renowned Huron University College and as well at Western University Indigenous Services. I taught math to grade 1 to 4 students. Now I teach mathematics, statistics, computational algorithms and project management to business students at Fanshawe College. I am really looking forward to helping and sharing my knowledge with students.
