Background

About John Everingham

I’ve worked in marketing, multichannel communications and new media production for many years. I started out in arts marketing and online sales with Sheffield Theatres and then Sheffield International Venues before returning to my hometown of Keswick and Theatre by the Lake. I then moved into regional television news production with ITV Border and ITV Tyne Tees and then on-demand IPTV with ITV Local. After a pleasant overseas interlude as a Senior Producer for Television New Zealand’s award winning website tvnz.co.nz, I returned to the UK and honed my development and project management skills in the public sector as part of the IT and Web Team within Cumbria County Council’s communications department. During my time there, I managed the development of the council’s online interactive real-time Winter Gritting maps and an Emergency School Closure notification system. I joined Upbeat North as an Account Manager in 2015 and subsequently took on a diverse range of roles, including project management, customer service and support management and operations management. I worked on some fantastic projects while there, including The First Minister’s Reading Challenge for The Scottish Book Trust, an innovative interactive highways map for East Sussex Council’s Highways Department and various projects for The Commonwealth Secretariat. I joined Eden District Council in February 2019, initially as a Web Co-ordinator and then as the Communication and Engagement Manager. Local Government has faced an extraordinary decade of change and this shows no sign of letting up. Engagement with the communities local authorities serve and are accountable to is essential and increasingly expected. In April 2023 Eden District Council joined with South Lakes District Council and Barrow Borough Council to form the new Unitary Authority of Westmorland & Furness Council, where I continue to act as Communications and Engagement manger, within an expanded communications team.
