About John Holmes

My professional objective is to serve the King and build His kingdom by teaching and leading. Experience, testing, peers and mentors have confirmed that my gifting is in the areas of teaching, leading and administration. Philosophy of Education I believe the goal of Biblical education is to equip people that they may be “complete in Christ” (Col. I take this to mean that they may be “complete” in the sense of thinking critically, evaluating what is right and wrong, good and better, and most importantly, choosing to obey and live a life of faith. I have two goals when I teach: to help people create a positive attitude about the subject and instill an appetite for more of the subject. When those two objectives are met, learning becomes enjoyable and life changing. I take the responsibility of teaching and modeling very seriously in light of James 3:1. Philosophy of Administration My overall administrative goal is to serve those in the realm of my influence to ensure their success and thereby the success of the organization where I serve. I view my administrative responsibilities as an opportunity for ministry, not as a detractor from it. I am a high C/D on the DISC Personal Profile (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness). The Lord has given me a win-win leadership style. My strengths lie in relating to people and finding creative win-win solutions to problems. As Academic Dean I sought to empower and serve faculty so that they can be successful in what they do. I do not micro-manage, but am detail oriented. I value ongoing education as evidenced below. It is my goal to be a level 5 leader (in the language of Collins’ “Good to Great”). Teaching Effectiveness My effectiveness in the classroom has led to other speaking engagements (camps, retreats, men’s conferences and churches). It is a joy to have students return years after a class and comment about how Jesus has changed them as a result of a particular class.
