I have worked in the civil service for over 30 years and for the majority of this time I have worked in property management in central government departments. I am currently heading up the Food Category in Crown Commercial Service. We are developing a Food Category and a commercial vehicle that allows public sector buyers to access local, regional and national, fresh, frozen, ambient food and drinks. A centralised deal represents an opportunity to support Government policy as set by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). As a member of the Government Commercial Function in the Cabinet Office I implement the FM spend controls process from a strategic and commercial lens and influence central government departments strategies on property management to make government property a great place to work in. I have undertaken a number of roles during my time and the key activities are below. Head of Estate for HM Passport Office (HMPO) ultimately responsible for the estate, it’s strategy and health, safety and well being of the staff and public Programme Manager responsible for the delivery of major capital projects including the role out of the 68 national interview office network for the passport office. Project Manager for various complex and sensitive projects across the DWP, HMPO and Home Office estate including list x sites and multi occupied facilities on, for example MoD estate, Portsmouth Naval Base joint venture with HO, UK Border Force & Navy. FM delivery both day to day management of supplier and contract performance Contract Management for various contracts such as FM, consultancy for project management and full design team, estate management suppliers and lease events Central government estate management of suppliers and activity for day to day landlord and tenant activity, lease events and treasury functions. Commercial Property Lead providing strategic advice and guidance to customers on estate strategies and operational planning ensuring customers understand impact on their and others estate. Supplier management at a strategic level within Crown Commercial Service, managing key government suppliers, understanding their drivers and leveraging best commercial deals for government.
