About John Mbagwu

John is currently the Vice President of Portfolio Management and Commercial Operations at CivicaScript. Prior to his current role, John was at Genentech where he started as a senior strategy manager on the Pricing, Contracting, and Distribution (PCD) team, developing pricing, contracting, and distribution strategies for products within the ophthalmology and rheumatoid arthritis space. He then became the Group Strategy Manager of the Regional Ecosystem Account Strategy and Negotiation (AS & N) team where he led the newly created team responsible for developing regional payer and health system contracting and distribution strategies, in partnership with account teams in the ecosystems, to support patient access to Genentech’s medicines. Before Genentech, John was a strategy manager on the Prescription Drug List (PDL) pharmacy team at UnitedHealthcare (UHC) where he was responsible for the development of formulary management strategies under the pharmacy and medical benefits. John was also the co-director of the managed care pharmacy residency program and was responsible for the training and development of resident pharmacists. Prior to joining UHC, John was the clinical and client lead for the Health Technology Pipeline (HTP) in the Medical Informatics group of OPTUM. The HTP is a tool which allows its users to predict the potential financial impact of new medical technologies on medical and pharmacy budgets. John completed a PGY-1 Managed Care Pharmacy Residency at OPTUM that was focused on data analytics, medical technology pipeline research and monitoring, and specialty pharmacy management. John holds Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Bachelors of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) degrees, both from The Ohio State University.
