About John Rikala

John Rikala Consulting focuses on Application Architecture, Design and Development in the Policy Administration space. John has over 17 years of experience with the highly configurable OneShield platform. Continuing his role in migrating Oracle PL/SQL business logic to Java, John performed analysis, design and development of the Object Tree Service, which provides a hierarchical tree view of an object hierarchy in the OneShield user interface. Putting on his Implementation hat again, John picked up the final phase of developing the AAIS Premium and Loss Extracts from a OneShield PAS for a client. The work involved analyzing the Stats Manuals, PL/SQL design and development, metadata table modifications, as well as metadata configuration. He also enhanced the PL/SQL Stats Engine to provide Minimum Earned Premium functionality. He is in the process of enhancing the Java Stats Service with the same functionality. Last year, he completed phase 1 of porting Core rating business logic from Oracle PL/SQL to Java as a microservice. The Java migration projects undertaken to date include- Rating Micro-Service - Premium Statistics Service - Page Processing Service - Task Generation Service The Rating project is being implemented as a microservice using Spring and Maven on the highly configurable OneShield platform. At OneShield, John established, developed and led the Implementation Organization over a 10 year period. He has also functioned as a OneShield Application Architect on many client projects. He has Policy Administration System (PAS) experience with Commercial Lines, Personal Lines and Surety. His specialties include integration, Insurance Rating and Policy Statistics Generation and Data Conversion. John has over 30 years experience in the Information Technology field, including 15 years of IT management, 3 years in Consulting Services, and 12 years in business application development positions in Insurance, Financial Services, System Integration, and Business Services. Before joining OneShield, John held a number of positions at Fidelity Investments including Project Manager, Development Manager, and Director of Development. John has also formerly worked at Keane, Inc. as a Consulting Manager and Senior Consultant.
