About John Wincott

Full time PhD Researcher in Climate Change Legislation, especially the Climate Change Act (2008) and Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009. I focus in particular on the case R (on the application of ClientEarth) v Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Drax Power Ltd [2021] EWCA Civ 43, which provides key insights into how the law operates in regards to climate change when making decisions in relation to large infrastructure projects such as the Drax repowering DCO application. I am the Chair of the Steering Group of Sustainable Scotland Network (SSN) looking at the larger picture around all Scottish Public Bodies. I have a passion for sustainability, the environment and renewable energy which fitted perfectly with my former role as Environmental Services Coordinator at Fife College. In this position I lead the college in tackling the challenges we all face around sustainability and climate change. I was also previously appointed as the Convenor of the Office Bearers' Group of the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges. Student Member of United Kingdom Environmental Law Association. In my previous role as Executive Spokesperson for Environment and Transport for Fife Council, I was engaged in a variety of activities from the Council's energy strategy through to recycling. Fife Council has a number of innovative technologies including the anaerobic digester, a 'hydrogen office'​, a wind turbine project, solar pv and solar thermal projects.
