About Jolien Perneel

As a doctoral researcher at the VIB-UAntwerp Center for Molecular Neurology, I specialize in unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders, with a specific focus on (endo)lysosomal dysfunction in frontotemporal dementia. My expertise bridges molecular biology, neurodegeneration, and translational science, supported by an extensive technical skill set and a strong foundation in both in vivo and in vitro models. Over the past few years, I’ve managed multiple research projects and collaborations, coordinating with both academic, clinical, and industrial partners. These experiences allowed me to develop strong problem-solving, organizational and time-management skills. I've developed a clear and transparent communication style—both in writing and in person— by regularly reporting to stakeholders and presenting at (inter-)national conferences and seminars as well as to a lay audience. I’ve trained and supervised multiple students and technicians and value structure, clear communication, and strong, supportive teams that work efficiently and with purpose. I’ve had a taste of the industrial world during earlier lab assistant roles which have equipped me with valuable insights into the practical demands of industrial research environments. Now, I’m ready for a new challenge—one where I can combine my scientific expertise, project management skills, and collaborative mindset to contribute to innovative projects in industry. I’m particularly interested in roles at the intersection of (neuro)science, biotech, and therapeutic development – where I can help translate science into solutions that make a real-world impact while continuing to grow professionally. I bring energy, curiosity, and a strong sense of initiative to everything I do—whether it’s at the bench, writing a grant, or presenting at international conferences. I thrive in dynamic, interdisciplinary teams and enjoy engaging with others, sharing ideas, and learning from different perspectives.
