Background

About Jon Behar

Ten years working on optimization at the world’s biggest hedge fund gave me an appreciation for the importance of allocating capital intelligently. Now I’m passionate about improving the efficiency of society’s charitable donations and using effective philanthropy to make the world a better place. I currently conduct independent philanthropic research and work as a part-time strategic advisor to two non-profit organizations I’ve been intimately involved with for years, The Giving Game Project and The Life You Can Save. At The Life You Can Save, I formerly served as COO. TLYCS raises awareness and funds for outstanding and highly cost-effective non-profits helping people who live in extreme poverty. Since 2014, TLYCS has seen 76% compound annual growth in its primary metric: the money it raises for effective charities minus the money it spends on operating expenses. Over that period TLYCS has raised over $65 million for its recommended charities, while spending only ~$3 million on its own operations. In my current role, my focus is on leading TLYCS's crypto-philanthropy efforts. I founded The Giving Game Project in 2012. It runs philanthropy education workshops that teach people how to be intentional, informed, and impactful with their giving by letting them give away real money to real charities. We’ve run Giving Games at over 100 schools worldwide (many of them elite universities), businesses (including some household names), conferences, and religious and secular gatherings. Contact me if you share a vision of a world where more resources go to fight the biggest problems (especially if you’re excited about using Web3 for social good).
