About Jon Black

Before assuming the role as the CEO of RSL NSW I was the Managing Director of TAFE NSW (with approximately 450 students a year Australia’s largest education and training provider), and previously the Director-General of the Queensland Departments of Environment and Heritage Protection and Energy and Water. I also have a strong background in water management in Queensland as the former Chief Executive Officer of the large water utility, Unitywater, and prior to that, the then South East Queensland water and sewerage distribution and treatment business. My first-hand multi-industry knowledge, government experience, customer focus and business capability, plus a wealth of leadership proficiency gained in my 20+year career with the Australian Army, enables me to successfully engage with and lead teams to reform organisations. My formal education has provided me with qualifications from the University of New South Wales, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, The Royal Military College, Duntroon and the United States Marine Corps University, Virginia, USA. I was also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland.
