About Jon Stainsby

Jonathan Stainsby’s practice includes a wide range of complex litigation matters, including intellectual property litigation (patents, trade-marks and copyright), corporate/commercial and shareholders’ disputes, business disputes, fraud claims, share valuation proceedings, tax litigation, and defamation claims (for both plaintiffs and defendants). In addition to appearing as trial counsel, he has significant experience in seeking and defending injunctions and other pre-trial remedies. Jon has appeared at all levels of the Ontario and federal courts and at the Supreme Court of Canada, and has acted in numerous private arbitrations and mediations. Jon is a past director of the Advocates’ Society. He has taught civil litigation at the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Bar Admission Course, and the Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop at Osgoode Hall Law School. In 2003-2004, Jon was appointed Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, where he taught Advanced Civil Procedure. Jon has also spoken at many continuing legal education programmes. Jon has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation Canada as a "Litigation Star" and by Lexpert for Intellectual Property Litigation. He has been ranked by Chambers Global (Band 1) and the Practical Law Company (Recommended) for his expertise and accomplishments in patent litigation.
