During my time interning (~6 months) with the Catawba County Government, I learned so many things. Some of the things I learned were how to be the member of a team, how to handle the public with respect and patience, and how to be more empathetic to the members of the community who struggle on a daily basis. It was perhaps one of the most eye-opening experiences I have ever had. I learned that sometimes when you want to change the world, it starts with your own backyard, or in this case your own local government, whom look out for the special populations of the geographic area.
