I spent nearly 25 years in the media, and nearly two decades of that time leading and inspiring individuals and teams in what has been a fast-moving, deadline-oriented and constantly transforming industry. What I realized during that time is that communications was the one constant: the internal focus on working with, motivating and empowering reporters, columnists and editors, as well as marketing, advertising and communications departments; and the critical external focus on the client, whose financial investment supports and enables your work and whose concerns reflect societal mores and change. During my years as a journalist and manager, I championed change, focusing on creating, producing and collaborating on content. My teams were bold in their delivery of informative, analytical and entertaining products, seizing upon technological revolution and capabilities, which reflected our strengths at communication. Thinking creatively, taking risks and driving innovation have been my focus. And, most of all, bringing out the best in teams.
