Background
About Joost Daalder
In addition to research in my subject much of my retirement has been spent on the visual arts. In particular, I have come to dedicate much time to the subject of ethnic jewellery. My wife and I are fellow collectors in this area. Truus has written a big book on the subject, called *ETHNIC JEWELLERY AND ADORNMENT*(you can see it - and buy it- by going to and I run a Facebook page called "ETHNIC JEWELLERY AND ADORNMENT" (devoted to the subject generally, not just to pieces in Truus's book). This FB page has - to our great pleasure - attracted a large number of viewers (more than by December 2017). Please look it up if you haven't yet seen it!(More recent comment.) Since I first wrote the beginnings of this summary years ago I have also been very actively publishing on Renaissance literature (the area of my professional specialisation). I wrote a substantial chapter called "The State of the Art" for *WOMEN BEWARE WOMEN: A CRITICAL GUIDE*, edited by Andrew Hiscock and published by Continuum in 2011. But the biggest and most thorough publication of my career appeared in April 2015: a vast, elaborately annotated edition of both *THE HONEST WHORE, PART 1*(1604) and *THE HONEST WHORE, PART 2*(1605), both published in the series Digital Renaissance Editions. These publications can be accessed for free by going to the DRE website: the series has an "open access" policy, so I am actually hoping that my work will be read by many. In fact, many of my other publications are frequently read, quoted or referred to. In general, I take a strong interest in the arts, notably literature and the visual arts, and I acquaint myself ongoingly with works in these areas. I also contribute strongly to promoting and analysing literary and visual arts. Please see an interview with me in *Writers in Conversation*, in the issue that appeared recently (I am writing in early 2020). The interview deals with my total output as a researcher and the list referred to is complete (starting with my first published article in 1969). Please go to https://journals.flinders.edu.au/index…/…/article/view/64/73. I am interested in learning, researching and teaching - and always have been involved in such activities.
