About Joris Govaerts

Sociologist driven by a strong sense of justice and a passion for social change From an early age, I have been socially engaged and guided by a deep sense of justice. This led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Applied Youth Criminology, after which I started working at Elegast as an Integral Youth Counselor and later as a European Project Manager. At the same time, I completed a Master’s degree in Sociology to deepen my understanding of how social vulnerability develops and how we can drive structural and sustainable change on a macro level. In my current role at Elegast, I witness the impact of giving young people real opportunities. I organize and coordinate projects that empower young people, professionals, and organizations, creating tangible social value. I enjoy working at the intersection of practice and policy, with a data-informed and human-centered approach. My strength lies in analyzing complex social issues, with attention to nuance, data, and personal stories. With this combination, I aim to contribute to policy that is fair, inclusive, and impactful.
