About Jos Schroevers

As a 7-year-old boy, I fell under the spell of the drum, which was not received with cheers by everyone at home. My dream as a young drummer was crystal clear: to become a professional musician. From that kid behind the drum, I grew into a performing musician (timpanist) and later conductor. In 2011 I proudly received the Dutch Conductor's Award from the Anton Kersjes Fund at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. During the London Masterclasses in 2012 he attended a weeklong master class with Benjamin Zander. Jos was greatly inspired by this remarkable man and uses his leadership philosophy, which he has described in the book "The art of possibility" and draws energy from his approach to make the people enthusiastic to love classical music! Nowadays Jos stands for renewal, connection and innovation in the cultural sector with the goal of integrating art and culture more into society linked to making both cultural education and cultural participation more sustainable. Jos as an inspiratior "Managing an orchestra has many similarities to managing any other organization. In my presentation I discuss the different leadership styles you can use. I also use music as a metaphor and the listeners experience what it is like to conduct themselves. So this is really about personality and how to win over a group of people without saying anything but only by using your body language.
