About Joseph Ticar

Everything we learn at school, we can learn in a public library. With the internet, most knowledge is now at your fingertips. So why are you here? On the first day of school for every class I've taught, I've asked my students this question. I understand the importance of a genuine relationship and the impact that it has on student success, but I know that it only happens through a process of relationship building and trust. So why the question? For a lot of high school students, high school is a procedure: You do the class, get the grades, get the report cards. Wash, rinse, repeat. But it should be so much more than that—high school is a place to get inspired, discover passions, and pursue interests. My passion for teaching is underscored by a desire to see my students develop a persistent curiosity about their world inside and outside of the classroom. Whether it's in my capacity as IB DP/CAS Coordinator, Assistant Head of School, or classroom teacher, I'm constantly on the lookout for how I can help students discover who they are and what they are capable achieving.
