About Josh Backfield

Have done extensive work in understanding log message from multiple device types including but no limited to Cisco PIX, Checkpoint Firewall, Snort IDS. Have done quite a bit of work in data mining and understanding and correlating database records. Spent lots of time with using HTML templates in Perl to generate reporting based on this correlation of database records. Created a password storage system that could be centrally managed to allow for easy updating of the password information. Wrote multiple reports based on data mining in order to give daily updates based on important thresholding information. Rewrote our event distribution system into a multi-threaded system improving performance in C. Utilized a full TCP socket connection in order to perform the event distribution and offload the work of looking up event information from the UI portion and moved into the event distribution system. Was able prevent deadlocks within the multi-threaded environment. Rewrote one of our primary user interfaces by converting the interface from C/Gtk into Scala/Liftweb. During the process, taught many co-workers not only the Scala/Liftweb/ScalaTest frameworks but also the concepts of functional programming. Wrote a new application to take advantage of database changes into a Scala/Liftweb implementation. Also wrote a new web application utilizing Spring-MVC and JAX-WS to create an SOA web application.
