About Joyce Chan

I believe in equal education and a bright future for all students. I enjoy walking alongside with students, to light up their paths and see them achieve their dreams. No matter which stages they are in, what background they came from, and what their dreams are, they deserve the opportunity to strive. I am inspired by my High School teacher, who knew my worst yet believed in my potential and walked with me throughout my path to college. I hope to make a life influence on our students, just like how my teacher had on me. Coming from a background in Criminology and Psychology, with the experiences in academic and college advising, I worked with a diverse group of people from around the world. As an Education Coordinator, I am capable of working in teams and individually. I co-worked with my Center Directors and tutors in two centers to manage more than 200 active students, provide daily customer services to current and prospective families, and exceed yearly sales goals. I am trilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, so I got to translate for the Chinese community and eliminate the language barriers, especially to those who just migrated to the States. Besides, I performed administrative tasks, oversaw student’s academic records, and designed posters for center events. I have been involved in local and international non-profit organizations since High School, to organize and teach at summer camps, write curriculum for afterschool programs, and assist in the office as well. It is my honor to have the opportunity to give back to the community, especially the marginalized. It warms my heart when I see numerous lives being changed by the services that we provided. It is precious to have the chance to interact with staff, volunteers, and attendants, as learning from people with a different background and perspective broadens my vision and gives me new understandings about the community and the world. With what I learned from my past, I have developed a heart for the underprivileged community, and I truly believe that a small change can make a big difference in people's lives.
