About Jozef Dragasek

Jozef Dragašek, MD, PhD, MSc, MHA is the Head of the 1st Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia. He serves as Honorary Secretary of the Psychiatric Section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and Vice-President of the Slovak Psychiatric Association. Dr. Dragašek earned his MD in Psychiatry (2008) from the Slovak Medical University and a PhD in Neurology (2006). From 2004 to 2007, he completed postgraduate studies at the Vienna School of Clinical Research and Medizinische Universität Wien, earning a diploma as an Academically Certified Clinical Research Leader. He further obtained a Master’s in Health Administration (MHA) in 2016. He holds leadership roles as Chairperson of the Executive Board at the Society of Biological Psychiatry and Honorary Chairman of the Association of Young Psychiatrists. He is also a member of the Psychopharmacological Society, Section of Sexology, and the Slovak Neuropsychiatric Association. As Chairman of the Editorial Board and Expert Editor of the journal Psychiatria pre prax (Psychiatry in Practice), he contributes significantly to psychiatric literature. His research focuses on mental disorders in epilepsy, schizophrenia, nutritional psychiatry, psychiatric EEG, and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Dr. Dragašek has authored and co-authored over 345 different publications (35 indexed full texts) with more than 395 citations (320 SCI citations, Hirsch Index: 9). He actively participates in research grants and organizes professional events. Since 2016, he has been a registered court-appointed Expert in Psychiatry for the Ministry of Justice. He has represented Slovakia in the UEMS Psychiatry Section since 2012, was elected Section Officer in 2017, and has served as Honorary Secretary since 2018, with re-election in 2023. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Categorization Commission for Medicines at the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic.
