Background

About Julia Barashkov

I’m an architect, researcher, and strategic urban foresight practitioner specializing in digital urbanism, participatory design, and systems thinker. I work with digital tools, urban governance, and community-driven intelligence to create resilient and adaptive cities. Currently, I’m conducting research at TU Delft, where I explore bottom-up urban interventions, decentralized urban governance, and the role of digital tools in empowering local communities. I’m particularly interested in how participatory and systemic design strategies can address complex urban challenges. At Urban Futures Lab, I help city leaders and stakeholders navigate uncertainty through strategic foresight reports and participative scenario workshops. I combine macro trend analysis with local community insights to develop strategies that are inclusive, future-oriented, and actionable. My background in parametric design, cognitive urbanism, and digital fabrication shapes my approach to urban design. In my earlier work as an architect, I developed several award-winning urban master plans that connected the planned city and the everyday experiences of its inhabitants. I’m passionate about designing strategies that address interconnected urban challenges and empowering communities to shape the future of their cities. Let's connect!
