About Julia Burke

I am a writer, wine lover and wine educator. I have worked in small and large wineries since 2008 in positions from tasting room service to viticulture to cellar work, in Western New York, South Africa, and Central Wisconsin. I have also worked in wine retail, and I've written about wine for local and national publications. From 2011 to 2015 I balanced wine work with a freelance writing and journalism career, most recently as web editor at The Progressive in Madison, Wisconsin. Fueled by a wonderful experience getting my WSET Advanced certificate in early 2015, I moved to Chicago for two years to work as a wine buyer and wine educator. After working a harvest in the Willamette Valley in the fall of 2017 I officially relocated to the Oregon wine industry. In April 2019 I completed my WSET Diploma in Wines and Spirits. I spent nearly five years writing, editing, leading and organizing seminars and coordinating various marketing projects at the Willamette Valley Wineries Association, most recently in the Communications and Education Manager role. I am also an ETP-certified WSET instructor for levels I, II and and I was accepted into the Master of Wine program in September 2020. In July 2022 I relocated to Newark, where I will be based through the end of the year, and I am now available for remote freelance and contract work.See my résumé, writing samples and blog at Stellenbauchery.com.
