About June Matayoshi

I have been an active free-lance musician in the metropolitan Chicago area for over 40 years and member of the Chicago Sinfonietta from 1994 - 2023. I have held orchestral positions with the Joffrey Ballet, Illinois Philharmonic, and Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestras, and have also worked with a variety of other ensembles in the region. Over the past 15 years, my work has been focused within Chicago’s downtown theaters, performing with touring companies for the San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theater and Ballet West, and pickup orchestras featuring Celtic Woman, Moody Blues, Johnny Mathis, Vince Gill, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, as well as Broadway in Chicago productions of Aladdin, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and South Pacific. I served on the adjunct faculty at DePaul University School of Music, North Park College and Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago. I have degrees from Roosevelt University and Northern Illinois University and studied with Carl Sonik, June Wollwage and Grover Schiltz. Concurrently, I have served on the Irving Harris Foundation (IHF) team in administration/operations since 1985, and as grants manager since 1998. I oversee the Foundation’s grant making process, serve as IHF liaison between grant partners and program team, provide guidance to grantees, track all IHF grant procedures, and review/issue contracts and other compliance documentation for the Foundation. In 2014, also became IHF’s co-System Administrator for our SmartSimple grants management system, working with an internal team to customize and maintain on-line applications and forms, workflows, and develop other features and tools for staff use. I served as Co-chair of the Membership Committee for PEAK Grantmaking's “Mighty” Midwest Region from 2019-2022, and continue to be involved with the SmartSimple Chicago Users Group.
