About Juney Shober

I have adopted the motto,'Learning to Teach, Teaching to Learn' I earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education from The Ohio State University after 5 years working in the Museum Education field and completing a Bachelors Degree in music with minors in Physics and Anthropology at Kenyon College. However, It is my sincere belief that we never stop learning. I aim to keep that in mind in all aspects of my life, but especially my career as an educator. My goals as an educator are twofold, as implied by my motto, above: 1) Constantly seek ways to enhance my students' experience in (and often outside of) my classroom. This is inspired by my experience in the museum field and experiences in life as what I hope is an observant, curious, and reflective human. As an example, rather than have students read and take notes on electric circuits in the classroom, I might take students out to the parking lot and take a peak under the hood of my car, identify the relevant components, and then talk about how to and why jump starting a car works. 2) As important as my goals of improving my own teaching ability are, they are secondary to the ultimate goal: to create a more scientifically literate, curious, and empowered society- one student at a time. I place a strong emphasis on the importance of knowing how to find and use information than classifying or memorizing it. Traditional Tests and book work may still have a place, but I believe a more meaningful assessment and application of content comes out of. actually applying that content knowledge in Lab or Project environments.
