About Kaitlyn Ranasinghe

I am a dedicated community educator and advocate who has a passion for social justice. Beyond my education in local and global development, I have worked in the fields of maternal health, food security and resilience, anti-human trafficking, children and youth programming, and women's rights. I believe wholeheartedly that ethical leadership is key to non-profit management and community advocacy. In order to stand for any social justice issue, we must be equally willing to stand for accountability and transparency within our organizations. When we do, we allow ourselves to put our best foot forward as we step into our communities. Most recently I have worked as a program director, leading a team of staff, volunteers, and interns to provide meaningful and empowering support to survivors of human trafficking across Ontario. In this role, I coordinated hiring and supervision, budget management, volunteer coordination, and program implementation and monitoring. I further engaged in public education and public relations, organized fundraising campaigns, and supported organizational development and management. Previously I conducted research through York University as part of my Masters of Arts to examine the inner workings of Canada's anti-trafficking movement, specifically how collaboration and the lack thereof impacts our ability to support those who have experienced trafficking across the country. Now a new mother, I continue to engage in research, education, advocacy for survivors of human trafficking, and community engagement. I am a passionate leader who is dedicated to excellence in all that I do, committed to providing relevant and empowering support to those who need it and to advocacy that inspires structural and systemic change in Canada and the world.
