About Kara Johnson

I spent the majority of my professional life in higher education. A huge part of my identity is tied up in being a higher education professional; I thought it was where I would be forever. Then life happened. My parents worked hard their whole lives at jobs they didn't particularly enjoy, saving for a retirement neither of them lived long enough to see. My best friend died at age 39. Then a global pandemic hit. All of this forced me to take a long, hard look at my life and reevaluate my priorities. I realized I was completely burnt out. I had gotten into a rut professionally and I was tired of not being in control of my own time. I wanted more freedom and autonomy. So, count me as part of the #greatresignation. After 17 years working in higher education, I decided it was time to step outside my comfort zone and give myself the opportunity to take a break, pursue interests and passions I’d been neglecting, and live a life that is authentically mine. I started my career coaching practice, Untamed Life, because I believe everyone deserves to forge their own path and design a career and life that is authentically theirs.
