About Karin Iwasaka

One constant thread throughout my life has been an interest in peoples' stories - whether reading and writing fiction, studying history as an undergraduate, meeting someone new, or coaching and advising. Everyone has an interesting story to tell and a unique perspective to share. I am a firm believer in both the power of education and lifelong learning, as well as the importance of owning and telling our own stories. My work in both the education and non-profit sectors is grounded in the belief that people can grow and effect change in their professional and personal lives. I have more than 15 years of career coaching and academic advising experience and have had the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds throughout the United States. In different roles, I have sought to bring a sense of curiosity, open-mindedness, and empathy to my work, in support of student and client growth. As a coach and currently as a Learner Support Specialist, I seek to empower others to 1) become aware of the stories they tell themselves and the beliefs they hold, 2) recognize the skills and experience they already possess, and 3) gain confidence in articulating this awareness to others. I've had the good fortune to witness the professional development of several individuals over the years and continue to be inspired by the current adult learners with whom I work.
