About Kate McCandless

Kate is a young professional in research funding and awards. She has returned to her alma mater, Western University, to support the important work of ensuring valuable research projects get the funding they deserve. Kate is passionate about helping experts and scholars do what they do best, therefore allowing them to focus on conducting rigorous research and advancing Western University's reputation as a top research institute in Canada and around the globe. Kate previously worked in law firms in librarian roles. Through her work with Siskinds she was able to rapidly establish herself as an expert in legal research and reference. This work continued at Fasken, where she provided legislative tracking and update reporting for the firm, including producing a Labour and Employment Law Quarterly Report available for sale to clients. Kate has an interest in issues surrounding access to information, ethics, privacy, and the power of engraining knowledge translation in publicly funded research, in order to provide meaningful impact and change to wider society. Kate has been described as a “do-er” by her superiors and loves having variety in her daily work. She continues to stay connected with the legal industry through the Canadian Association of Law Libraries by authoring their Bibliographic Notes column.
