About Kayla Lake

My passion for social work began after a poor experience with a social worker in my teens. I told myself then that if I were in her shoes that I would do all that I could to make sure that the people I work with do not feel the way this woman made me feel. I started my educational journey at St. Louis Community College where I met some of the most inspirational professors that made tje work we do look easy. Their stories and insight ignited something in me to pursue working with the undeserved and vulnerable. After this, I worked in residential care where I saw the inequalities that these communities face, particular african american and LGTBQ. I knew then that I had to keep going because there is too much work to be done. I continued my education with UMSL in hopes to become a better social worker and person. i completed my bachelor's in social work and minored in psychology. I completed my masters in social work in 2022 with hopes that this would open the necssary doors in order to achieve my goals in service of others. Currently, I am working on the bigger picture and what this really looks like for myself.
