About Kerrie Bourner

Through the past 9 years the development of my knowledge and understanding has enabled many opportunities to showcase and advance my skills and responsibilities within the Combustion Engineering Association. From my lifelong experience of hospitality within the Motorsport world, transferrable interpersonal skills have generated many long term working relationships in the Combustion Engineering world. On leaving school, I didn't want an "office job", but my expectations and past work-experience had only shown basic, mundane, repetitive tasks confined within 4 walls; I enjoyed the STEM subjects and wanted to make an impact with whatever I worked on. When people ask what I do at the moment, my response is "office admin", it has the basic elements of the "office job" as most careers will, but my passion for my work stems from the wide spread of activities I am involved in, being able to network with members, attend the various conferences, events and meetings and seeing the results of the "office job" side of my work come to life. The most rewarding element, so far, is seeing the growth of the CEA, developing various Training Schemes (I-GAS, SBWTT, CCBWT, WISTS) and BG Guidance Documents; being part of them from the offset, to seeing certificates being posted on LinkedIn and being shown as recognised, recommended, qualifications and documents within the wider industry. I regularly ask my two daughters what they want to be when they grow up, the current response is "Engineer" and "Clothing Designer", funnily enough, never an "office job".
