About Kevin Murphy

I have recently completed an MSc in Work and Org Behaviour at University of Limerick. The master’s has opened my eyes to the world of workplace well-being, motivation, and performance. It became clear to me over the duration of the programme that I have lived out the management of workplace wellbeing as a self-taught chef and successful restaurateur. I instinctively developed and implemented well-being strategies for my team based on employee retention fears, like many small business owners in the hospitality sector. However, I'm proud to say, I also deeply cared about the personal development and workplace conditions of those who were enabling me to fulfil my dreams. All told, I have witnessed and experienced the impact of well-being and engagement strategies on employee retention and team performance. I now have the theoretical backing and understanding of what such an approach should entail, and the potential benefits and outcomes for both the individual and organisation.Having closed my restaurant, I returned to a previous employer in the third sector, where I have held senior management positions, led teams through numerous OD change processes, co-ordinated research projects and developed org strategies with a view to empowering the lives of young people in Kerry. However, the time has come to take the next step in my career, and I am actively researching roles that will match my commitment to improve workplace well-being.
