I help companies develop and test human-intensive display, sensor and control products and systems—specializing in virtual devices such as head-mounted displays and AR, VR and MR applications. I have a deep understanding of user needs and desires for dynamic, interactive and extensive display imagery. I am good at working with a team to develop prototypes and simulations with informal or formal testing. I have worked on such projects with defense, medical and entertainment companies. I am comfortable with both basic and applied research projects. I help small businesses win Phase I and II SBIRs. For any solicitation that has a strong human component, I can bring the critical skills to give you a winning proposal. Most of the proposals I work on end up winning awards. I have strong writing skills and am good at working with technical people to craft a great proposal. I create models, analyze data and document results. I keep things simple and usable, allowing companies to benefit from my efforts. For example, I first look at graphical presentation, then simple non-parametric testing, and finally common statistical tests. I am experienced in developing test instruments for user preferences and ratings, and also performance data such as response patterns, times, accuracy and errors. I work in the following areas: eye movements, head movements, head and body anthropometry, color science, physiological optics, optometric testing, human performance, preference measurement, scaling, monocular and binocular viewing, and 3D and stereo images, I have a specific interest in the apparent distance of virtual imagery—going back 45 years—and have insight that will likely surprise most developers.
