About Kyla Galer

Kyla Galer is a three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist currently anchoring the news in Southwest Florida. At NBC2, she anchors every day at 4 and 11 p.m. When she's not on the desk, Kyla works on special projects that dive deeper into community issues than traditional day-to-day reporting. As soon as her day starts, she’s involved with preparing newscasts, researching, writing scripts, and guiding reporters. Kyla was one of the first reporters in Southwest Florida to arrive at the Sanibel Causeway after it was destroyed during Hurricane Ian. She provided critical reports for more than 16 hours straight after the strong Cat 4 storm battered the area. Two of her stories in the days following the storm were nominated for Emmy Awards, bringing her total nominations to eight. Kyla started her career in Colorado Springs, CO, where she reported on the booming marijuana industry and devastating wildfires that ripped through the southern part of the state. After Colorado, Kyla moved to Las Vegas as a multi-media journalist and anchor. She covered everything from education to casinos and the historic shutdown of the strip during the pandemic. Her coverage of the George Floyd protests was nominated for an Emmy. However, it was her tenacious investigations and exceptional writing that landed her three Emmy awards. Kyla’s passion for journalism started at a young age, as she presented the morning announcements in middle and high school. She is committed to holding the powerful accountable and giving the voiceless a platform to speak, all in an unbiased and factual manner.
