About Lance Kennedy
Now serving as a Mid Devon District Councillor and Tiverton town Councillor. Former Chair of Scrutiny and Audit committees, and previously Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel now a District PCC Police Advocate and Non Executive Director of Devon Association of Local Councils. Previously spent 14 years serving the communities of Bodmin, Cornwall and more recently a spell with Mid Devon District.(2018/19) I was chair of a Patient and Public Involvement Forum, Mayor of the County town four times, Cornwall Unitary Authority Portfolio holder, represented the town and County locally, nationally and had dealings with international public safety practitioners. Instigated and chaired the Military Covenant rationalised and improved CCTV instigated changes and improvement to the Localism agenda. Following meeting with the late Lady Mary Hollborrow and the now Her Majesty the Queen I negotiated an extra floor at peppercorn rent to expand the women's refuge. I achieved a Veterans Mental Health pilot scheme for Cornwall which is now successfully integrated in main stream health. My last two year project was to start the process of uniting local GP surgeries and health providers to deliver the concept of a central health hub in Bodmin, improving the MIU facility and utilising the other services to reduce ambulance and patient visits to A&E at Plymouth and Truro. Saving time, money and increasing the golden hour. Vice chair of the regional combined trading standard organisation. I look forward to new challenges, problem solving, creating strategic solutions, using where appropriate simple observation, communication and thinking outside the box without over complication which can achieve a great deal. I enjoy team work but am comfortable working alone, I am able to work outside any previous comfort zone and enjoy new learning experiences. I have always been committed to the true goal of political, voluntary and remunerated service namely endeavouring to improve the opportunities of the public. As a police officer I served on several departments traffic, comms, community, CID, tutor, tactical firearms and others. I received a Chief Constable commendation for disarming a person threatening me with an automatic weapon (subsequently a replica) also a Judges commendation for choosing not to discharge my firearm when confronted by an armed man. Taken part in numerous radio and tv interviews including The Politics show and Panorama.
