About Lara Edington

I'm originally from Cambridge where I lived until my family relocated to Vancouver when I was 15 (fun fact: I have only one GCSE! One of my proudest achievements was finishing my maths GCSE in a year with an A* before leaving the UK). It was during my time in high school there that I discovered my love of calculus, maths and physics, and decided to combine these in studying mechanical engineering at university. My path took me back to the UK to enjoy time with family and the home comforts I'd missed. I moved to Sheffield (where I still live 10 years later, because the Peak District is pretty nice) and, after graduating with my integrated master's degree, I started a PhD studying digital twins of dynamic engineering systems. I ultimately worked out that my aspirations weren't aligned with the world of academia and I made the decision to leave my PhD halfway through, which although a really difficult decision, was one I am proud of making. At this point I took up a role as an Operational Research (mathematical modelling) analyst in government and learnt that my talents and expertise were well-matched to quantitative data analysis, which I since have found a real passion for. I am now establishing my career using data, maths and computational models to solve real world, current problems. If you want to know about me personally, well: I LOVE chocolate, my main hobbies are the gym and working on my house renovation, and if I'm not feeling challenged then I'm probably not happy!
