About Lau Silver

I have just graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, studying in Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Statistics and Computing as my major. In my past study, I have acquired knowledge from computing fundamentals to applications in statistics and data analysis areas. Throughout the tertiary study, I have learned statistical theories, regression analysis, time series analysis and business studies regarding accounting and finance. Besides my proficiency in MS Office including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, I also have learnt some useful statistical software tools from my university such as SAS, SPSS, Minitab, Matlab, and Bloomberg terminals. Recently I have completed a case study about portfolio designation around common stocks and it further enriched me in ways of applying my statistical knowledge into financial data analysis. Apart from my study, I have attained some work experience regarding statistics. My last employment was a statistical assistant in the Science and Technology Section of the Department of Census and Statistics from the HKSAR Government. In the section, I was mainly responsible for assistance of conducting Survey of Innovation Activities (SIA) for year 2015 in the process of preparing questionnaires, data entry and editing. Furthermore, I have also operated on glossary enrichment and news research in innovation and technology areas and these have broadened my horizon in statistics related to research and development of innovation industries. Apart from survey and statistical job duties, I also helped in clerical support and HR matters from the section under the recruitment exercise for field enumerators in survey of innovation activities. This can enrich my exposure in data processing and administrative areas.
