About Lee Conroy

With over 28 years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard, I’ve dedicated my career to protecting lives, securing infrastructure, and leading with purpose. My Coast Guard experience shaped my approach to operational readiness, crisis response, and interagency coordination, skills I now apply to ensure the safety and security of our school communities. As the Director of Safety and Security Services for Alexandria City Public Schools, I oversee all aspects of emergency preparedness, risk mitigation, crisis management, and industrial safety for one of Virginia’s most diverse school systems. I lead a committed team focused on fostering safe learning environments through threat assessment, incident response, training, and strong partnerships with local, state, and federal stakeholders. During my Coast Guard career, I held command and leadership roles involving search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, port security, and contingency planning. I bring a mission-first mindset, proven under pressure, to the complex safety challenges facing schools today. My goal is clear: to build a culture of safety, resilience, and trust, where students and staff can thrive without fear. Whether at sea or in our schools, service to others has always been at the heart of what I do.
