Art is powerful medicine; it can transform walls into mirrors and strangers into friends. Art can heal, reveal new paradigms, and disarm…all in the name of fun. Lesa Goltz is an artist and educator. She designs curricula utilizing cognitive and behavioral art therapy techniques. Her projects inspire young individuals to explore fundamental concepts such as character integrity, self-love, conscientious awareness, humility, authenticity, and empathy through a “bottom-up” learning method via theoretical synthesis. What does this mean? In a generic learning environment (such as a classroom), concepts are conveyed via a “top-down” method: the idea is presented, and students are expected to process and apply these ideas with minimal life experience for reference. Lesa’s “bottom-up” educational approach employs the same formula, but in reverse. This allows for something very magical to happen: learning comes full circle.
