About Liam Doolan

I started my journey as an apprentice software developer at Turcan Connell, and after a successful apprenticeship was promoted to software developer and applications developer thereafter. I left this position to attend the University of Strathclyde, from which I graduated with a MEng in Computer Science with distinction. During my time at Turcan Connell, I learned the foundation of my programming knowledge by developing applications in C# and maintaining a large SQL database. My biggest achievement was creating a piece of software to help the tax department with their very large list of regular HMRC payments by scraping information from the web to be processed and distributed between the relevant tax managers. This project was outsourced by the company initially but was thought to be too challenging before being taken up by myself. Throughout my time at university, I became very comfortable with languages like Java and Python, and found a particular interest in working with data - from SQL to machine learning assignments. My 4th year project was to create a prototype health database in NoSQL to store health data in a flexible format. My 5th year project was a group project with 3 other students in which we created a city simulator. This was sponsored by Rakuten as a project to create an environment to test evolutionary algorithms for their mobile network. As of January 2023, I have began a new journey with ING in Amsterdam, working as a junior software engineer as part of the cyber fraud prevention team.
