About Liam James

I am currently a Trainee Marine Pilot on the River Humber, working towards qualification as a Class 3 Pilot. My role involves developing detailed local knowledge, shiphandling expertise, and a strong understanding of port operations to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vessels in a challenging tidal and commercial environment.Prior to this, I worked within the oil refining offshore sector as an Ast Mooring Master, specialising in Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) operations. This role required close coordination with terminal staff, vessel crews, and shore management to maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational efficiency during critical marine operations.I bring 10 years of deep-sea experience, most recently serving as a Senior Officer, and I hold a Master Mariner (Unlimited) licence. My background spans a wide range of containerships and operational contexts, providing a strong foundation in leadership, risk management, navigation, and maritime best practice.I am now focused on applying my offshore and deep-sea experience within the pilotage domain, contributing to safe navigation, port efficiency, and the continued professional standards of the UK marine industry.
