About Liam M. Brady

My expertise lies in quantitative and qualitative research, project design, strategy and management, data analysis and interpretation, results writing, and a proven ability to develop and nurture high-level and meaningful community and stakeholder relationships. For the last 20 years, I have worked in the university, cultural heritage and community engagement sectors, developing, directing and carrying out research projects with Indigenous and community organisations across northern Australia, the American Southwest, and Canada. I love all aspects of research practice: the challenge of identifying problems, creating research questions, aims and objectives, developing research plans, carrying out fieldwork using innovative technology, and then making sense of it all to tell a story. What drives me is my passion to work collaboratively with industry, business and community partners to solve problems, create new knowledge, and generate meaningful results using new and innovative research methods. I have collaborated with many organisations including mining and energy companies, tourism operators, cultural heritage consulting firms, not-for-profit organisations, Indigenous-operated corporations and foundations, and Commonwealth and state/territory government departments. My experience in these areas has also helped me to become highly adept at effectively translating and articulating my research findings into accessible and innovative formats for stakeholders via writing, illustration, media (e.g, digital animation), and public speaking. I thrive in diverse and multidisciplinary environments and have successfully worked in both individual and team settings. I have been mentored by leading figures in anthropology, archaeology and partnership-based research, and continue to direct large teams undertaking research and community and stakeholder engagement in a range of settings including rural and remote areas. As an experienced project director and manager, I secure and handle $1m+ budgets, lead research design strategies, mentor junior colleagues and students, encourage multidisciplinary thinking, and foster an inclusive and creative atmosphere. My skills and expertise as a researcher have also been recognised with highly competitive awards and fellowships from peak bodies such as the Australian Research Council. I’m also a successful fundraiser, having been awarded over $5m in research funding to support my collaborative projects.
