Background

About Lois Parker

I have worked as a collaborative leader in clinical pharmacy services with a focus on problem solving and identifying and implementing best practices. With an analytic approach, I identify procedural deficiencies and implement corrective processes that improve safe medication administration, reduce medication errors, minimize treatment-induced adverse effects, and prevent harmful drug interactions. At MGH, I gained extensive medication therapy experience in pediatrics and pediatric critical care, and was considered a subject matter expert in this discipline. Through active participation in numerous multidisciplinary projects and committees, I was instrumental in initiating departmental changes that ultimately result in enhanced patient care and patient safety. These committees include the following: PPME (Preventing Pediatric Medication Errors), Asthma Pathway Development, Pediatric Admixture Guidelines, Pediatric Heparin Safety, Pediatric LVP Library and Implementation, Partners eCare, Neonatal Medication Safety, Pediatric Procedural Sedation, Medication Safety, Education, and Approval Committee (MESAC), Safe Administration Subcommittee, Pediatric Syringe Pump Library, PICU Collaborative Practice, PICU Sedation Weaning, and Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) Steering Committee. Working on these projects sparked my passion for educating others, which resulted in my work developing and presenting continuing professional education topics locally as well as at national meetings such as the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. I am honored to have been named a Fellow of ASHP in March 2015. Beginning in October 2015, I was employed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear as a Clinical Pharmacist II. I was involved in the Epic implementation, and subsequently an Omnicell implementation. I have delivered several educational presentations, including nursing grand rounds and OHNS grand rounds. I had a leadership role in Medication Management in two successful Joint Commission surveys and have worked closely with other disciplines in controlled substance oversight and diversion prevention initiatives. I retired from this position in August 2023, and am currently volunteering with the Metrowest Free Medical Program as their first volunteer pharmacist.
