About Lorelei Pepi
Lorelei Pepi is an animation artist and professor whose projects engage with topics of identity and representation, the sexual female body and LGBTQ issues. Her projects have received international recognition with major festival awards (Grand Prize, Public and Jury Awards,) with festival screenings that include Sundance, Rotterdam, Siggraph, Bilbao, Frameline, Ann Arbor, Ottawa Animation, Portland Museum of Art, Anim'Est, Cineffable, Helsinki and Leipzig. Her creative work is distributed internationally and has received generous support from such organizations as Creative Capital, LEF Moving Image, Harvard University Film Study, and the MacDowell Colony. Her work exists in personal collections as well as the of the Canadian National Film Archives and the film archives of UCLA and CalArts. She studied Illustration at Rhode Island School of Design (1987) and Experimental Animation at California Institute of the Arts (1997). Lorelei lives and works in Vancouver, Canada, where she teaches animation arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She is currently in production for an interactive animation installation about the commodification of the virtual female body.
