About Lorelei Root

Cross-disability accessibility advocacy is a driving passion of mine, so I am incredibly grateful to have a career in this industry. As a disabled woman myself who uses various forms of assistive technology to access the world, I want to contribute to a society with as few barriers as possible. I am a firm believer in "nothing about us without us" and believe that any progress toward access inclusion needs to be diverse, with an intersectional view and built on an on anti-oppressive and anti-racist framework. I currently work as a digital accessibility specialist for Eagle's Flight, making digital content more accessible to people with disabilities. I am the chair of the City of Guelph’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, the chair of the city of Guelph’s Municipal Elections Accessibility Subcommittee, a board member for the Canadian Centre for Disability Studies, and I serve on a number of other boards and committees in an accessibility advisory capacity. I have also done a lot of public advocacy surrounding elections accessibility in Ontario municipal elections.
