About Lucio Cecchini

Dr. Lucio Cecchini. Ph.D. in Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences and Biotechnologies, and research assistant. In 2014, he get the Master's Degree in Agronomy with 110 cum laude and, in 2016, he obtained the Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics and Policy at the Research Centre in Economics and Rural Development Policy - Department of Agriculture, “University of Naples Federico II”. From 2014 he was research fellow at the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences of Perugia University, where carries out research activities in the context of national and international projects in the field of analysis of the environmental sustainability assessment of the agri-food supply chains, farm efficiency evaluation, analysis of consumer demand and preferences. More specifically, his research interests include: i) assessment of farm economic, social and environmental performances in the agri-food sector using life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) approaches; ii) developing of smart evaluation aggregate sustainability tools for livestock farms integrating different dimensions; farm efficiency analysis and assessment of the relationships between technical efficiency and both animal welfare and environmental indicators; iv) marketing studies on consumer preferences for food products; v) econometrics applied to the agri-food sector; vi) methods of Operation Research and Optimization models based on mathematical programming and multi-criteria decision making approaches. Since 2017 he is actively involved in two local research projects (AppEcobio and Livestock Smart Farming) funded by the Umbria Region RDP 2014–2020, focusing on designing and implementing of smart decision support systems based on digital and IT solutions. In the “AppEcobio” project, he collaborated with the working team to develop a simplified, easy-to-manage and farmer-friendly applicative software for the integrated management of economic and environmental accounting in organic farms. In particular, this tool is able to quantify, in real-time, the environmental effects in terms of carbon emissions and the economic effects in terms of economic performances deriving from each farm operation. Also, AppEcobio allows for the estimation of the trade-offs between economic and environmental aspects, in order to assess the effects, in this twin perspective, of both different business strategies and climate change mitigation measures.
