Background
About Lucy Day
I love to explore what’s possible – discovering ways to do something better excites me. I love the opportunity it presents for collaboration. The trouble is, for many people in organisations, change is a constant and so they feel overwhelmed by it. They feel like it’s something that’s been imposed on us and it’s downright stressful – somehow, they just need to survive it. However, if we bring human thinking and feelings into the process, it doesn’t have to feel like this. It can provide an opportunity for people to develop and grow. It can help people to feel a part of something that matters. What happens if you learn how to do this? You will have a more of an engaged, committed workforce and staff retention will become less of a headache. My mission is for organisations to be more human-centred so that people to feel like they are helping to create something good, but not at the expense of their wellbeing. People need to feel like their voice counts for something. They need to not only feel heard but acknowledged too. If you can support people to feel valued, then you can retain an engaged team. How do I know all this? I’ve spent most of my career working in stressful, fast paced environments (namely Marketing & Comms and Information Services). The sectors I’ve worked in include retail; utility; charity and public (NHS). I’ve been a project manager; contract manger and have led an income generation team. On top of all this, I’m an ICF accredited coach, where I coach leaders on resilience and building stronger relationships at work. What these all have in common is that success is built on the ability to collaborate well – change works well when you take people on the journey with you. To do this, you need to know how to listen; be agile; encourage creative thinking and develop problem solving skills; be an effective communicator and importantly, to be able to show empathy.
