Background
About Lucy Day
I love change. It excites me. But I also know that it's not for everyone. If we want change to happen, we need to make people feel it's the right thing to do and that they play a part in making something good happen. We therefore need to think about how we communicate. My experience has proven to that if we consider people's emotional responses, we can create narratives that help to manage behaviour and improve connection. We also need more good conversations - which include the messy ones - to inspire and enable change. These conversations improve our ability to problem solve, give us different perspectives that aid good decision making, and our involvement will help us to feel committed to the change. We therefore need to create environments where people feel safe and able to speak-up, and where honest and inspiring stories are told by all. My mission is for leadership and communications to be more human-centred so that people feel more connected and inspired so that they choose to play an important part in creating something good. I’ve spent most of my career working in fast paced environments where I have led teams through periods of growth; managed new product development; developed and presented business cases, written cases for support; and have been responsible for acquisition and retention - including the creation and delivery of campaigns. On top of all this, I’m an ICF accredited coach, where I coach leaders on resilience and building stronger relationships at work. Why am I telling you this. Because I understand how communications influence people and how success is built on the ability to communicate and collaborate well. Change works well when you take people on the journey with you. To do this, you need to know how to listen; be agile; encourage creative thinking and develop problem solving skills; be an effective communicator and importantly, to be able to show empathy.
