Background
About Lucy Hinton
Teaching: My teaching philosophy rests on principles of equity, justice and transformation, both inside the classroom and beyond. I believe in guiding students to action through experiential, collaborative learning approaches and confidently building their skills in critical analysis, writing and personal values. I teach broadly in Global Politics, but focus mostly on topics around Global Food Politics, Global Environmental Governance, Critical Development Studies and Global International Relations. Research: I study the ways that contemporary and historical structures in the global political economy have created and maintain food systems in the English-speaking Caribbean. My research focuses on uncovering and exploring these issues to build a persuasive case for reparative approaches to power in global food systems and wider international relations. I also do work on global food governance, especially around the role of Small Island Developing States (SIDS). I accept some consulting contracts in both food systems and politics research, and higher education teaching and learning, with a focus on graduate student transitions to full-time instructors.
