About Lucy Patten

Lucy is a qualified and experienced social worker and therapist, specialising in her work with children and young people. Lucy completed her counselling training in South Devon and has been in qualified practice since 2006. After a few years of working in Private Schools, and Private Practice, Lucy started additional employment in a Local Authority fostering team. In this role Lucy supported foster carers and children and young people in their care. Alongside this role Lucy was part of a Fostering Panel, representing the views and experiences of children and young people who have been cared for away from birth family. Lucy then went on to qualify as a Social Worker in 2014. As a Social Worker, Lucy has worked in Local Authority settings, predominantly in the field if child protection and Court work. Lucy soon developed her skills, supervising students and ASYE social workers. In addition to front line practice experience, Lucy has been a Practice Manager, and more recently a Placement Service Manager. In this role Lucy led a service that provided multi-disciplinary wellbeing support to children and young people, and their families within an Education Multi-Academy Trust. Lucy supported a team that included Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy and Social Work MA and MA students, as well as Play Therapists in training. Lucy currently runs an organisation, The Patten Practice, that provides therapeutic Life Story Work to children and young people who typically live away from their birth parents. Lucy also supports the kinship families and carers through direct work and psychoeducational work. The Patten Practice also offers counselling and Clinical Supervision. Lucy currently has additional employment within a Local Authority as an Advanced Practitioner. Lucy is a qualified and Experienced Practice Educator and Placement Learning Supervisor. Lucy is passionate about supporting the social work work force, focussing time and skill towards supporting practitioners at different points in their careers. Lucy has been a guest speaker at a number of key events, including the 2023 Social Work Conference, and Universities around the UK.
