About Lucy Sims

I graduated with a first class Bsc (Hons) Educational Psychology degree in July 2016. Throughout this course I learned how to put my knowledge of psychological theories into practice. I did two voluntary placements as a teaching assistant (one in a special school, working with SEN children and one in a mainstream). I have recently worked in a mainstream school, as a teaching assistant, supporting a reception boy with brain damage. I worked alongside other professionals such as a speech and language therapist and SENCO in developing his communication by reinforcing language using picture exchange communication. In July 2018, I gained a PGCE Primary with Mathematics Specialist (merit) at Edge Hill University. Since then I have gained experience as a KS1 and KS2 teacher, planning and delivering lessons of a high quality to make sure pupils make good progress and setting high expectations to ensure they succeed. I have adapted to teaching remotely during lockdown, ensuring all pupils were given appropriate resources to ensure they were still making good progess. I am currently working as a year 3 teacher, but looking to broaden my experience in clinical psychology, in the hope to one day becoming a clinical psychologist
